Author Guidelines

In addition to reports of original research, the Journal publishes review articles, reports (including case studies, short communications, theoretical or practical reflections),  invited commentaries, editorials and target articles.

Target articles are by invitation only and are usually encouraged and coordinated by a Section Editor, a Guest Editor or the Editor-in-Chief. They typically focus on: (A) the report and discussion of empirical research that may have broad scope and implications for sport science; (B) an unusually significant theoretical article that formally models or systematises a body of research; or (C) a novel interpretation, reflection, or critique of existing experimental or theoretical work. Topics dealing with social or philosophical aspects of sport sciences will also be considered. Authors with ideas for an interesting Target topic may suggest this by getting in touch with the Editor-in-Chief.

CISS prefers to receive files in Word's .docx format; however, we accept pdf-format, but please consider that you might be asked for a resubmission with highlighted changes in your manuscript after reviewing.

This journal has a double-blind review policy (if reviewers do not decide for an open review). Therefore, we require authors to submit an anonymous version of the article file. Please upload ONLY one anonymous manuscript file. Include your tables and figures in these document, following APA guidelines.

For your submissions, please download our Word templates provided here - the separate table file is just for understanding - please include tables in your manuscript files and delete autor names and institutions before finally submitting:

Please upload ONLY one anonymous manuscript file. Include your tables and figures in these document, following APA guidelines.

If you do not resubmit within a period of 6 months from the decision, your article will be formally rejected and archived based on failure to observe the time-limit.

Author Fees

This journal charges the following author fees.

Publication Fee per article: 400.00 (EUR)
This fee is for articles with a main text body (i.e., not including title page, abstract, key words, acknowledgments, references, tables, figures and captions) that does not exceed 6,000 words. Furthermore, a maximum of a total of eight figures or tables must not be exceeded. Longer articles will be charged with an additional payment of EUR 100.00 per 1,500 words and of EUR 50.00 per table or figure.

If an author is a member of the Sport Scientific Societies of Austria or Switzerland, his or her individual fraction of the total publication fee will be reduced to 50%.

If an author is a current member of the current CISS Advisory Board, his or her individual fraction of the total publication fee will be reduced to 75%.

Please accept that combined reductions are not possible. In cases of reductions, the total publication fee is rounded up in steps of EUR 10.00. (Example: author 1 = ÖSG member, author 2 = SGS/4S member, author 3 = Advidory-Board member, author = regular; total publication fee = round (400/4 * 0.50 + 400/4 * 0.50 + 400/4 * 0.75 + 400/4 * 1.00) = EUR 330)

The total amount of the publication fees needs to be transfered by the corresponding after the finalisation of the review process. The manuscript will not be published before the reception of the total amount of publication fees can be approved.

No expenses are incurred in cases of invited target articles or invited commentaries.
